“Career event: Options after your PhD”
Organisers: Araceli Venegas-Gomez, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom and Chiara Trovatello, Politecnico di Milano, Milano, Italy

After your PhD, there are several ways to start your professional career. We would like to present you some opportunities both in and outside Academia. It is well known that a large percentage of Physics PhD students goes on to, ultimately, occupy a non-academic position. At the same time, there are several cases of successful careers as a researcher. Would you like to know the key to their success? Or are you looking for alternative careers? EPS Young Minds has the pleasure to invite you to our career event on professional paths inside and beyond academia where we will discuss and promote different career paths and opportunities for physicists. In the form of a discussion panel, young physicists – master students, graduate students, and post-docs – will have the opportunity to engage with different speakers through a Q&As session.

This event will also present a view on different professional profiles, such as:

  • researchers in Attosecond Physics, Photonics and Ultrafast Laser Science;
  • a laser consultant;
  • a chief scientist and advisor; and
  • a large photonics company founder and CEO.
